Kamdeboo Cattery located in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa is owned by Leonard and Susan Ferreira. Breeder home to Burmese, Devon Rex and British Shorthair.

We have been breeding with Burmese since 2014, the stunning Devon Rex breed came into home in 2017 and have been breeding with Devon Rex since then. We do breed with British Shorthair but only have one litter a year.

We are a registered breeding cattery with both registering bodies in South Africa namely The South Africa Cat Council ( SACC) and The Cat Association of Southern Africa ( CASA ). We are also members of The Western Province Cat Club.

We both are very involved in the cat fancy in South Africa, from breeding to attending shows to judging and all things cat… our very first Burmese were two boys, Felix a blue Burmese and Spice a Chocolate Burmese ( neutered ). Our first queen was a brown tortoise shell, named Sussie. Our intention was never to show but the breeder at the time asked if we won’t show our cats, especially Felix. So we entered our first show not only with Felix but with Spice and then just for fun we entered Sussie ( whom we thought at the time was not the most pretty LOL ) and to our surprise Sussie outperformed the boys on the day in the kitten class and we were hooked. The breeder suggested that why don’t we consider having a litter with Sussie, never thinking that this would be the beginning of our breeding journey with Burmese and the later Devon Rex.

We never in our wildest dreams thought firstly owning these wonderful breeds of cats and then secondly breeding with them could be so fulfilling as well a humbling. Cats teach us about
unconditional love, living life to the full, what it means to be a worthy companion, enjoying the little things in life, living together in a community, wholehearted commitment and so much more.

The most rewarding part of breeding is seeing our kittens leave our home on their journey with their new family, the joy and excitement on the faces of the kitten owners. The lifelong value that the kitten brings to each and every new home is priceless. Each and every cat that leaves our home is the promise of something so special, so endearing because we know what the Burmese, what the Devon Rex in essence embodies!! Super temperaments, beautiful personalities, affection, energy, charm, quirkiness, companionship, loyalty, warmth, playfulness, intelligence and the list is endless.

Leonard is also a qualified All Breeds Cat Judge ( CJGA ) and has judged at many shows across South Africa. Susan has qualified in certain categories and is well on her way to becoming an All Breeds Cat Judge. We both are also involved with our own cat club, called Chats du Cap and have arranged many cat shows in and around Cape Town. Our club focuses mainly on shows in the smaller Western Cape towns, taking cat shows to smaller communities where the opportunity to see the many variety of breeds are very limited and showcasing the many breeds to people who otherwise would never have the opportunity to see thee many breeds.

Being involved in the cat fancy, breeding and showing, has taught us to be humble and to respect the cat world! Our love for furthering the Burmese and Devon Rex breeds is our way of giving back what they so unconditionally have given us over the years! To preserve the breed, to breed healthy happy kittens is always and will always be our utmost priority!
